As the summer continues to heat up
around the US we encourage you to grab a
tall, cool iced tea (or latte or chai or
whatever), flop into the best seat in
the house and savor these virtual
postcards from around the hat world.
We are so grateful to all of the
wonderful things you all are creating
with this little deck of cards. It is
almost magical to hear what sparks of
creativity and possibility get created
with these innocent little cards.
In addition to the postcards, we tip
our hats to those of you who have
children or loved ones heading back to
school.
Play on!

Postcards from the Edge of
Possibility |
 |
We knew when we created
One Hat At A Time
momentum cards that their
potential was virtually
unlimited. And it’s always a
thrill to hear about all the
different places the cards take
you. In keeping with our summer
time theme, here are postcards
from around the hat world, and
beyond.
Vacationing in Accessoryville
My coach introduced me to
the hat cards. I don't see
myself as much of a "hat
guy" so I found myself
wondering if there was
another accessory that
seemed more in keeping with
my style. Then I had it --
shoes. My coach had me run
with that metaphor, so to
speak, and I ended up
deciding that the best
footwear to don as I faced
this new challenge was "none
at all." For a variety of
reasons, the perspective I
want to exercise right now
is part child, part martial
artist, and part monk -- all
of whom walk the path with
bare feet.
Going where my feet lead me -- A
Fellow Traveler
Let The Hat Do The Talking
Hello, World!
The women I coach have just
emerged from prison,
rehabilitation programs and
battered women’s shelters.
They’re often uncomfortable
with calling attention to
themselves in any way.
Keeping quiet has been a
survival strategy for a lot
of them. Hat wearing can be
a big help to getting back
into the world and
discovering their personal
strengths. They can ‘let the
hat talk’ when they’re not
yet comfortable asserting
their own views.
Thanks for this new approach

Something Tells Me This Is
It.
Thanks so much for the One
Hat deck. Finally a tool
that really helps me channel
my intuition! I do readings
for myself and my friends
and my colleagues, and the
hat images enable me to zoom
in on the perspective that’s
missing, or that needs to
come forward. I offered to
help my boss solve a problem
the other day, and when I
suggested that he try on the
Miner’s hat he was amazed at
the way the tricky situation
was illuminated. It was
something he’d been
struggling with for months,
and he saw the light in
about five minutes. He
doesn’t put much stock in
intuition, so I’ll just let
him keep thinking the cards
did the work.
Sending good vibes your way
-- Ms. Intuitive.
The Luck of the Draw.
Aloha!
Once again, I didn’t plan
out a detailed itinerary.
Just landed here by happy
chance. Mostly I prefer to
go with the flow. The One
Hat At A Time deck is a
great traveling companion
for me wherever I am --
literally and figuratively.
I draw a card for myself
every day at random and try
wearing that hat for the
day. Somehow whatever hat
turns up turns out to be
relevant. And every once in
a while, the insights I get
from these random selections
are nothing short of
amazing.
Yours, The Accidental Tourist
Greetings from
Genderville!
I’m a coach who has been
using the cards with my
clients and I’ve run into an
interesting phenomenon. Greg
mentioned that he thought
the card images were
feminine and Lisa thought
they seemed more masculine.
I’m wondering if you think
that those images that are
deemed “masculine” or
“feminine” simply represent
the energy that the person
has been resisting
incorporating in their own
life?

Hats for Back-To-School Sanity |
 |
|
Even if you don't have kids we
thought you might enjoy the
back-to-school sanity hat list.
Back-to- school time is a
bittersweet one for kids and a
time for parents to prepare for
little bits of freedom. But
first:
The Shopping. Don the
beret and enjoy shopping for
supplies and what's cool. Take
your inner artist to the local
office supply store and buy a
few supplies for yourself while
you are there. Jazz up a plain
binder with fabric paint and fun
rubber stamps (because they only
make 3" binders very, very
ordinary). Now its time to buy
some clothes that fit and that
are appropriate for school.
Instead of moaning about the
latest styles, can your inner
artist find some pleasure at
people paying money for paint-
splattered jeans?
The Night Before The First
Day. If this is the first
day of Kindergarten for your
oldest child, you'd probably be
better off with a box of tissues
than a hat. For those of you
veterans out there, you know the
hat you need: Police Hat. Part
traffic cop, part regimented
rule upholder, the police hat
will help you organize the
troops and remind them of all
the rules and procedures they
will need to remember for the
next 7 hours.
The Paperwork. This
may just be a Montgomery County
Maryland thing, but the kids in
elementary school usually don't
have homework on the first day,
but their parents do. Inspite of
having technology that could do
this task easily, we have to
fill out 4 identical postcards
(front and back) for each child
plus write multiple checks for
under $10 for miscellaneou
items. The sunvisor is my hat of
choice for this task. I pour
myself an umbrella drink and
imagine I'm on the beach writing
postcards to friends who want
very detailed information about
my child. I can actually hear
the waves as I begin the 3rd set
of postcards.
Days Suddenly Empty or
Filled with Possibilities?
The hats you wear on the empty
days or moments may depend on
the age of the child and the
duration of the stretches of
newly open time that have
appeared in your schedule. This
is the perfect time to explore
each hat in turn, starting with
the chef's hat: What can
Transform the Mundane to the
Magnificent? Don't forget
one of the best uses of that
found time: renew your mind,
body and spirit. Explore aspects
of yourself you may have been
neglecting (especially if your
default hat is the mommy or
daddy one).

In the Spotlight

There are lots of caring people
doing neat things with One
Hat At A Time momentum
cards. One story that caught our
eye this month was started by an
inquiry to our site, from Jerri
Rosen of
Working
Wardrobes for a New Start:
"We are a nonprofit
organization and recruit
professional HR and trainers as
our Success Coaches. They
provide a curriculum of "The
First Steps to Career Success"
to men and women in shelters who
are ready to get back in the
workforce.
"One of our outstanding
coaches,
Christine
Edick, brought her
Hat deck to a training session
and the results were terrific.
"Our annual conference comes
up in November and I plan to
take our deck and present it to
the group. Will be sure to let
them know where to order and
info available on your website.
It's very creative!"
