Go to the Head of the Class: New Guidebook Provides Creative Ideas for
Galvanizing Groups
Attention corporate trainers, coaches, team leaders and group
facilitators: Things go better with hats!
That’s the experience of leaders who are using One Hat At A Time™
momentum cards with all kinds of groups – from career-minded Girl Scouts to
business managers to substance abuse counselors.
Now the creators of the innovative One Hat deck have published Energizing
Groups with Hats: One Hat At A Time Guidebook for Group Leaders. The
140-page guide is a goldmine of ideas, activities and handouts for
furthering almost any goal of training sessions and workshops.
The centerpiece of the book is a detailed set of instructions for 32
activities, and variations of them, for energizing groups. The exercises
include Ice Breakers, Team Builders, Solution Prompters, Rut Busters, and
Content Integrators, and most of the activities serve multiple purposes.
The first section of the book uses the hat images to illuminate the many
roles that facilitators play. By metaphorically applying hats to their own
work, facilitators and trainers get a firsthand experience of how the hat
cards increase awareness of possibilities and stimulate effective action.
The last section of the guide includes a color photograph of each of the
27 hat cards with information about themes, attitudes and paradigm shifts
evoked by the image.
“Workshop leaders around the country are telling us that One Hat At A
Time is a fantastic tool,” said Christie Latona, who with Laura Lind-Blum
created the set of cards and wrote the guidebook. “The idea of wearing
different hats to describe different roles in life and different viewpoints
immediately makes sense to most people. Now the guidebook is another
resource for group leaders, giving them practical suggestions for using the
cards for almost anything they want to accomplish with their groups. “
Energizing Groups with Hats is available in PDF format, and may be
purchased for $24.95 and downloaded at
www.onehatatatime.com.
“The exercises and games we suggest are seriously playful,” said Laura
Lind-Blum, who has an extensive background in corporate training and
coaching. “The activities are engaging and fun, and they lead to profound
insights, effective action and significant personal change.”
Latona and Lind-Blum are principals in Playful Power, LLC which
introduced the One Hat At A Time momentum cards in June of 2004.
