Dealing Up
Fresh Starts:
Momentum Cards Put an End to Procrastinating
Can’t get started cleaning out the garage? Putting
off dealing with that difficult employee? Never going to
finish writing that screenplay in your drawer?
Maybe you need a new hat.
One Hat At A Time™, a deck of cards depicting 27
different kinds of headgear, is designed to get people
out of their ruts and into action. Individuals can use
the cards any time, anywhere for an immediate charge of
productive energy .
“Each of the hats represents a particular
perspective,” says Christie Latona, co-creator with
Laura Lind-Blum of One Hat At A Time. “Stubborn
problems, tough decisions and overwhelming projects all
become easier to tackle when you approach them from
different points of view.”
The back of each card is inscribed with suggestions
and questions to help create a new “hattitude.” The
Beanie invites you to look at the situation with a sense
of wonder, innocence and curiosity. The Surgeon’s cap
suggests that cool, professional detachment has its
place, and urges consideration of what you want to save,
what is healthy, and what needs to be cut away. The
Graduate’s mortar board encourages celebration of
accomplishments and assessment of what you’re graduating
to, what you want to leave behind, and what you want to
continue doing as you move on.
There are even a few blank cards, so people can
individualize the deck with hats that they may need for
their personal circumstances and challenges.
Drawing on their experience as business and personal
coaches, Latona and Lind-Blum incorporated into the deck
intimate knowledge of how people and organizations
accomplish change.
“Everybody has some areas of life in which they
procrastinate, and some situations or relationships
where they get stuck in a single unproductive approach,”
Lind-Blum said. “Yet we are all capable of being more
flexible, resilient and innovative. The One Hat cards
help people tap into more of their intelligence and
creativity. They turn dreaded chores into fun, and work
into play.”
