From Overwhelmed Juggling to Concentration

I have been so overwhelmed by all of the demands on my time now that the kids are back in school and fall sports are in full swing. Not only do I need to handle juggling deadlines at work but also sports schedules and mountains of homework, laundry, etc. My best friend bought me a deck of your cards and the first card I drew was the mountain climber. The climbing helmut has helped me not only put my many roles into perspective, but it has also magically created focus so that instead of stressing out about the whole mountain, I'm just concentrating on the pull right in front of me. Thanks so much!

A Jester Approach to New Business

I used the hat cards in a meeting yesterday with a person just starting her business. I asked her to choose the hat she would MOST like to wear. It was the jester hat. We talked about the meaning that had for her business , what she was making up about the hats she should be wearing and she joyfully committed to finishing her business plan with this new hat on. The tool added a fun and creative flair to the meeting. I'm excited to explore other ways to use them.

To get over my anxiety about having to take pictures yesterday, I imagined myself as the young Jackie Bouvier, who was a news photographer before she married Jack Kennedy. This gave me a jaunty attitude, and the pictures are not bad for a first-time effort!

Facing the Financials

I had just gotten home after being away for like 3 weeks. I had a million things to do and I didn't want to do any of them. Especially finances! They were out of control. But I just couldn't make myself do them. I had so much to do I didn't even know where to start. After some continued resistance, I decided to see if the hats would help. I shuffled them and then "randomly" drew one. Of all the cards I could have picked, guess which one I drew? The financial visor! I had to surrender to their intuitive wisdom... I immediately started work on the finances and kept at it until I was finished. And you know, I felt a lot better. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

A Stressed Working Mom Creates a Hat

I'm a teacher and the end of the school year is especially stressful for me. I have been using the One Hat cards to choose a better attitude for tackling difficult things, but didn't see one that helped me take care of me. My coach suggested that I imagine what a self-care hat would be and to try and "wear" it for at least an hour a day. Immediately the image of the cozy, furry hats from Russia came to mind and I felt the warmth enter my body as quickly as I felt the tension release.

As a department head in a hospital faced with implementing many changes, I needed to articulate a compelling vision for my organization. When I was stuck on how to express the purpose and focus of my company, the Royal Crown showed up and I imagined wearing it for a couple of days. The question “What kingdom do you claim, protect and provide for?” was particularly powerful. The end result is a mission that speaks to my passion and draws me forward in creating this business.
